A brief on the Persian Library

Persian Library was incorporated as an association in Feb 2005 in Sydney, Australia. The Library used the standard model of constitution provided by the NSW Department of Fair Trading for Associations.

The aim of Persian Library is to grow into a centre for research on the history, politics, finance, arts, culture, religion, language and people of Iran and the Middle East. The Library has a large collection of books and Audio/Visual materials in Persian and English about the region. It is open to public and members can borrow books and other materials.

Currently, there are three volunteers who run the library during the week, each working 2 days from 10 am to 4:00pm. Also there are ten volunteers serving as members of the management committee, administrators and treasurer.

All books and materials held in the library are donated by members of the community and all people working as librarian or members of management committee are volunteers.

Books, Fees & Donations:

All Library income is generated through donations, membership fees and some cultural activities. No wages or salary is paid to employees. Most expenses are attributed to rent, and other outgoings.

Persian Library Incorporated is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) by the Australian Tax Office from 01 Jul 2011. It is covered by Items 1 & 4 of the table in section 30-15 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 . All donations over A$2.00 to the
Library will be tax deductible.

The Library is for non-profit and there is a clause in the constitution that in the event of dissolution, all its assets be given to the Iranian Community Organisation in Australia, another non-profit organisation, or a charity within Australia.

AGM:

Members of the management committee are elected for two years at the Annual General Meeting.
